about

The human condition is one of want. “All of life is suffering,” a mysterious tenet of Buddhism. Dukkha (suffering, anxiety, stress, feeling that life is unsatisfactory) doesn’t have to mean physical pain and misery, illness or affliction, the hopelessness of poverty, or mental illness. Many healthy, wealthy people suffer because they feel unsatisfied, bored, or threatened. Beautiful people often suffer insecurity, frightened of what will happen when their beauty fades.

We all want things we don’t (shouldn’t) have. Or we want more of what is bad for us. Addiction usually isn’t tied to only one substance or behavior. Obsession with “more” is part of "addictive tendencies." In a binge, the food addict wants more, even though they feel sick during and after. The alcoholic craves more, even though they only intended to have “one drink.” The moment the effects begin to wear off, the addict begins to think about the next one, and then another, and then, more. Whiskey, crack, sex, donuts… One is too many, 100 is not enough. We want More.
